Kensington Village

Once owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway, Kensington Village is now a revitalized neighbourhood,filled with residential homes and over 250 shops and restaurants. This family-friendly urban village hosts an ongoing series of events that feature something for everyone. Kensington Village is a pedestrian and bike-friendly community, and it also offers public transportation access (the LRT Sunnyside Station and several bus stops) to and from downtown Calgary.

Bow River

Meandering through the City of Calgary is the beautiful Bow River, named after First Nation people that made bows out of reeds growing along the riverbank. The Bow River Pathway, developed along both banks of the river, is just steps from our inn and is a perfect way to explore the area on one of our complimentary bicycles.

Peace Bridge

Opened for use in March 2012, the Peace Bridge connects the southern Bow River Pathway to Downtown Calgary. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the glass roof and steel-arched bridge is made for pedestrians and cyclists, providing a convenient route from Kensington Riverside Inn into downtown.

Prince’s Island Park

Prince’s Island Park is located on an island in the Bow River that was donated to the City of Calgary by the Prince family in 1947. The park is part of the pathway and hiking trail system on both sides of the river. Primary access to the 20 hectares park is through footbridges, with limited vehicle access. A wetland area exists on the eastern end of the island, which is home to many geese and mallards, and the park hosts a series of festivals, expos and events throughout the year.
